Bikrams Yoga Challange Day One!

OCT.11.2009

Today was DAY ONE...of my 30 day Bikrams Yoga challage at the new Bikrams Yoga Calgary South Location!  Before I go into the details on why I decided to take on this challenge and how day one went...I have to comment on how lovely the studio is!! wicked atmosphere...calming interior...Spacious areas...Its comfterable and makes you WANT to be there!!

Ok so I decided to take on this challange for a few reasons, 1 being I like to set goals for myself and complete them! Being a part of a challange gives me no excuse to say Im too tired or dont feel well because all in all practicing yoga daily is something that helps get rid of those nagging feeling we all experiance from time to time. 2 I find that once Im in a habit of doing something its hard for me to break it therefore choosing to practice yoga everyday for 30 days will be a great start to get me back on track! Its so easy for life to take control of our mind and turn us in to constantly moving robots, I feel like thats happening to me...Being busy is great! I have no complaints but there comes a time when you have to remember to just BREATHE! Sooo basically I am doing this to better my concentration and energy!

In 2006 I completed a 60 day challange in Vancouver which was defiantly a challenge to complete, but I managed to get into a habit of waking up at 5 am everyday practicing yoga and then headed to the studio to record my first album!! So the timing couldn't be more perfect right now as Boy & GurL are getting set to hit the studio to record our next album!!! Funny how timing happens in our lives!!

SO let me tell you about this morning! My body has reminded me that A- DRINK EXCESS AMOUNTS OF WATER BEFORE CLASS!!! B- LIMIT THE BOOZE INTAKE (last night was a 1920's themed murder mystery party...so much fun...I was killed by a letter opener ;( because a character accused me of commiting adultry...gassp!! ) C- MAINTAINING A HEALTHY EATING STYLE MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE IN OUR LIFES. That's what I was reminded of as I sweated out every possible thing from inside me!! Lyndsay (the instructor) made a very good point through out the class by saying "Feelings are only temporary" so true, and something we so easily forget, it was nice to be reminded of that as i felt like my stomach contents were getting ready to come up lol sorry for that mental picture!! but my point is that feeling of nauseousness went away eventually, and choosing to stay in the room and complete my practice was my choice and at the end of the day it benefited me. We all Choose the paths we take in life and we are all stronger then we may think we are so fight through whatever your going through and you'll come out seeing your strength. When I got home from class today I was so hot and dizzy that I felt like food would be my saviour...My dad was in the kitchen cooking Turkey for thanksgiving dinner tonight and I was so out of it i couldnt decide if it was more important to shower or eat haha he made that choice for me by sending me out of the kitchen to shower lol One thing about Bikrams is you DO NOT come out smelling like a fresh flower!! Shower will always have to trump food.

I know that the first few days of trying something new can be tough to get through but as we take things day by day it can only get better and we will continue to get through it...so thats my attitude towards doing 30 yoga classes in 30 days!!! Ill keep blogging about this experience as it goes on to remind all of us that we have some good days...some harder days...but with motivation we always get through it!!

Check out the Bikram Yoga Calgary South Website at http://www.bikramcalgarysouth.com/ and if you want to open up a new door in your life Come to a class and focus on only yourself for 90 min!!!! Its important to have that time with yourself daily!! See Ya there!!!
